Ever notice how a lot of commercial industry is still predominantly male gendered? I mean, obviously you’ve noticed it. But there are still those small things that just scream it out, you know? Take for example the fact that there’s also a lot of women who work construction but they still only have signs that say “men working overhead.”
I basically live across the street from a provincial youth correctional facility. It’s not that much of a big deal because nothing really ever goes wrong in my area. What’s really concerning is how much it costs. There was a newspaper article about it a few months after it was completed. I read that it cost about 10 million dollars to build and 3 million annually to run. The place is apparently designed to keep less than about 100 youth. But let me tell you, the place is huge. When I read the article, about three years back, the place was reportedly not even at full capacity. What I don’t understand is why build such a facility when it really serves for such a limited number of “criminals” and why is there so much money being poured into correctional services anyway? It seems like to me that the majority of that money, a large portion of which is tax money of course, probably goes to pay for the salaries of the staff working there. And there’s actually a lot of people working there.
I have buried you in every place I’ve been. You keep ending up in my shaking hands.
We are all born mad. Some remain so.
